Shopping online in Iraq: what to know
Iraq has no general VAT on a grocery basket. The published sales tax covers specific goods, such as alcohol, tobacco, cars, travel tickets, telecoms and some hotels and restaurants, not one rate added to every order. Prices are in Iraqi dinars, and domestic commercial transactions are required in dinars. The Ministry of Trade handles commercial control together with the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. The Consumer Protection Council named in the 2010 law was still being formed, according to the ministry’s statement in January 2024.
